I find it annoying and I had also thought someone had hijacked your handle and was spamming the group with all those "+21,000 opp" threads.
Occasionally shooting the breeze with off topic stuff is fine but the activity in a.tv.s. has really dropped off in the last couple of seasons and dozens of nonsense threads doesn't help.

Yes, EXTREMELY. And I see that you've since added more threads. I don't know why a regular would spam this group with OT threads, which is why I wondered if you've been hacked and should be killfiled.
"Or is that the real DW being EXTREMELY annoying with all those posts?"
C'mon, Virgin Queen...it's really him...and you have a great eye for humor...as did Marty Feldman...so sit back, relax...and let his love open your door.
"Occasionally shooting the breeze with off topic stuff is fine but the activity in a.tv.s. has really dropped off in the last couple of seasons and dozens of nonsense threads doesn't help."
I respect Ed...and understand what he's saying...but...I thought that things just went to hell in a handbasket when the spoilers ruined what would happen.
THAT is when the OT threads began.
Betting was messed up...and discussion about 'what would happen' was messed up.
It's still wide open to comment on the personality of the players.
Sadly...the surprises have been spoiled...and I don't like that the GROUP feels the pain.
"I am just trying to have fun and provide humorous entertainment for the group. If enough people do not find my input to BE entertaining, I can stop and go back to subjecting my dog and cats to my humorous offerings. But they just usually look at me curiously as though wondering why I am not giving them food..."
You have cats and dogs?
What are their names?
And, btw, feeding them just once a week is unacceptable.
"Yes, EXTREMELY. And I see that you've since added more threads. I don't know why a regular would spam this group with OT threads, which is why I wondered if you've been hacked and should be killfiled."
Please read my serious response to Ed S. about this.
The main stuff has been spoiled for the entire group...and I'm not happy with that.
So...comments about personalities and behaviors of players are cool and appreciated...but the story has been spoiled.
So please...everyone speak their mind as usual...and we'll try to accommodate.
(And ALOOO...you look GREAT in those satin tap shorts...especially with that mesh top.)

So it's not okay to feed them a ham or a turkey once a week? /me makes notes..

I've been quiet up to this point but the direction of this group is annoying. You should start your own group because you are hi-jacking this one. Perhaps alt.tv.survivor.game.
The next step for me is to kill file the players of this game. I know many do not care if I kill file or not, but I know some feel the same as I and may follow suit. If that is the only solution then so be it.

That's a sissy name for a dog ;) Must be one of those sissy expensive breeds. I would have figured you to have a Doberman named Killer.

Somehow I managed to miss all those spoilers without any significant inconvenience as opposed to having to sift through dozens of threads that have absolutely nothing to do with the show.
> Betting was messed up...and discussion about 'what would happen' was > messed up.
This newsgroup isn't about betting. When there were two or three threads a week on the betting it wasn't a big deal, then I noticed this season there have been many more threads each week related to the betting. Then I logged in yesterday and almost all the threads were about it. If there are enough people who really want to do the betting, spend 5 minutes creating a Blogger page and take the discussion over there before you completely destroy what's left of this newsgroup for the people who just want to talk about the show.

For ME...and maybe some others...I was thrown off when all the comps and boots were spoiled.
Sure...we could say...maybe they're wrong...but not likely.
With the results ruined...what's left is talking about the players, which we can DO, and make jokes.
If this kind of stuff would happen in a group I liked...I would be super pissed...however...we're not trying to disrupt anything...things have already been disrupted.
I would be willing to do what you'd like.
tnom...would you want to talk about the next possible boot...if we already KNOW?
Really...spoiling everything was NOT the way to go...and I admit it.

Well, I don't think that we're trolls who want to distroy things.
We're here everyday and have seen the season AND next spoiled.
It was troubling...and the trivia betting took over.
Again...I would do whatever you wish in order to make you more comfortable here.
You're smart, as are the others...you shouldn't have to leave.

But, the whole group hasn't been spoiled. I just avoided any message with the word "spoiler" in the subject and I have no idea what's going to happen next. If you've had the season spoiled it's because you wanted it to be spoiled.

The only Killer I ever knew was a friend's Pekinese who thought it was hilariously funny. It wasn't after the first time but not worth losing a friendship over!

So do I - I recently suggested that some on Galu might have demanded Russell play the idol (unnecessarily) as their price for supporting him against Erik and maybe one person responded. I thought it was a reasonable suggestion but it got no traction at all.

I agree. Unfortunately there hasn't been much of that outside of the betting threads. Those threads have had a lot of discussion about the bets, but there's also been a fair amount of discussion about the game. Even when you posted discussions of what happened in the show no one responded that wasn't already talking in the betting threads. I have no problem if Alooo, Queenie or others want to talk about the game. In fact I'm all for it. Unfortunately we haven't had much of that.
>While Survivor may be the MAIN topic under discussion here, I don't >think it needs to be the ONLY topic.
So long as the threads that aren't about Survivor are clearly marked there shouldn't be an issue. Any decent newsreader has the ability to filter out threads that are marked OT (off topic) or as a betting thread.

Because this isn't a cocktail party...

Actually we do. Usenet is broken up into topics so that people are able to discuss (or just read) the subject of their choice without having to wade through a bunch of non relevant posts.
While topic drift is inevitable, when it starts to go on for more than a few messages that discussion should be moved to another (appropriate) group.
The occasional off topic posts are tolerated, but they should be kept to a minimum as they are considered rude.

Ah, there were PLENTY of spoiler posts from Mr Clean that DIDN'T have spoiler in the subject line. Including spoilers from Survivor 20!

The editing of this season, in my opinion, hasn't really provided much to have decent discussions about the players because it's been just about 100% the Russell show. This is the first season for me where I doubt I could name all of the players at this stage of the game. Normally I can do so after a few episodes. Is Russell really that much of a villain that he deserves such star treatment? Or are the rest of the players so uninteresting and such bad players that MB decided to essentially turn them into background props?

Ah, there were PLENTY of spoiler posts from Mr Clean that DIDN'T have spoiler in the subject line. Including spoilers from Survivor 20! *******
I didn't mind the S20 posts saying who was invited to play and who did but I could have done without the posts telling us who won. I'll still watch just because I'm shocked at who the apparent winner was.
Given the million spoiler posts about this season I'm shocked people are still betting on the game.
